Continuing Education

CEU Education
Continuing education is critical to the ongoing success of the practicing interior designer. With the ever-changing application of technology and the introduction of new product standards and specifications, interior designers must constantly seek to gain additional knowledge. Many of the states or provinces that have laws regulating the practice of interior design and/or the use of a title require continuing education as a condition of renewal. ASID sponsors a wide range of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in varying lengths and topics, all of which are evaluated in accordance with strict IDCEC Guidelines (The Interior Design Continuing Education Council).

IMPORTANT REMINDER:  IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR CEU:

Attendees MUST sign in using your IDCEC numbers.  Allied, Associate and Professional member practitioners will be required to have your IDCEC number when you arrive – you will need this to sign in and, subsequently, to receive credit for taking the program. Those who do not have your number still have a chance to get it.  You can contact Sarita Williams at swilliams@asid.org to get your number and password.

CEU Requirements – Effective January 1, 2014

The ASID Board of Directors approved an increase of required CEUs for all members in the Allied, Professional and Associate categories. Currently, ASID has the lowest CEU requirement (0.6) among the organizations representing the built environment. Raising CEU requirements brings ASID in line with its industry peers and expands member knowledge.

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, the CEU requirement will increase from 0.6 to 1.0 (i.e., 10 hours). Note that this does not affect the current reporting period, requiring 0.6 CEUs by Dec. 31, 2013. The first reporting period with the new 1.0 CEU requirement will begin January 1, 2014 and end on Dec. 31, 2015.

ASID is also expanding eligible CEUs making it easier to reach 1.0. Approved CEUs such as webinars and chapter events will continue, with the addition of activities such as authoring a book or article, keynote speaking engagements, receiving tenure and more.

CEU Requirements: Overview

ASID bylaws and policies require all practitioner members (professional, allied, associate members) to earn a minimum of 0.6 approved CEUs every two years. This is a required condition of membership. The current reporting period began Jan. 1, 2012 and will end Dec. 31, 2013. Paying your dues indicates that you agree to remain in compliance. If you need help finding CEUs in your area please contact your chapter and request information on upcoming events in your area. You can also take online courses for credit at anytime at ASID UNi.    This member requirement strengthens the interior design profession by improving individual attitudes, competencies, knowledge and skills in subject areas essential to the growth and success of the industry.

6 Hours Every Two Years

Practitioner members (professional, allied, associate members) of the Society are required to complete six contact hours of continuing education coursework every two years. To qualify, coursework must be taken from an approved provider such as:  IDCEC;  State Regulatory Board;  CIDA-accredited college/university.

Reporting Period

The last reporting period has ended (Dec. 31, 2011) and the current reporting period for all practitioner members (professional, allied, associate members) began Jan. 1 2012 and will end Dec. 31, 2013. (Only CEUs earned between Jan. 1, 2012, and Dec. 31, 2013, will fulfill the requirement.)

Reporting Compliance

ASID wants to make reporting as easy as possible for members. When you pay your dues it indicates that you agree to remain in compliance with the CEU requirement because it is a required condition of membership. You do not have to submit any information about the courses you have attended and you do not have to report anything online. The only exception will be in the event you are one of the members selected for an audit, in which case more detailed records will be requested.

Random Audits

A percentage of members will be randomly selected for audit during each reporting period. If you are selected for an audit, you must present ASID with the certificate of completion, or a summary report provided by NCIDQ or your state’s regulatory board.

Failure to Comply

Any member who fails to comply with the continuing education requirement may eventually be subject to a termination of Society membership in accordance with the requirements of the policy.
